Changes in Blood Coagulation during the Clearing of Lipid Emulsions by Lipoprotein Lipase
نویسندگان
چکیده
The clearing of lipid emulsions by postheparin plasma from rabbits or human beings was accompanied regularly by a sharp reduction in the recalcification time of the plasma. No change in blood coagulation took place when the activity of lipoprotein lipase, the clearing enzyme, was inhibited by means of heat or the action of a surface-active agent. In control studies, the recalcification time of postheparin plasma was not altered by the addition of glycerol, free fatty acids, or the products of hydrolysis of a lipid emulsion. Taken together, the findings indicated that a heat-labile factor was released during the course of clearing which was capable of inactivating reversibly the anti-coagulant properties of heparin.

Triglycerides in fish oil affect the blood clearance of lipid emulsions containing long- and medium-chain triglycerides in mice.
Lipid emulsions containing long-chain triglycerides (LCT) and medium chain triglycerides (MCT) are widely used in parenteral nutrition. Recently, fish oil (FO) triglyceride (TG)-derived emulsions are considered therapeutic because of their many beneficial biological modulatory actions. We investigated in mice whether adding 10% FO to an intravenous lipid emulsion with MCT and LCT (MCT:LCT:FO -5...
متن کاملInhibition of Lipoprotein Lipase Activity following Injection of Pituitary Extracts into Rabbits
Rabbits given a single subcutaneous injection of an alkaline extract of hog, bovine, or human anterior pituitary glands developed marked hyperlipemia within 12 to 24 hours. The injections in some instances were followed by sickening and death of the animal, though no anatomical changes responsible for these consequences could be determined. No such sequelae were observed in animals given much l...
متن کاملMetabolism of emulsions containing medium- and long-chain triglycerides or interesterified triglycerides.
This study compares the clearing and metabolism of three different lipid emulsions. They had the same phospholipid emulsifier and similar particle sizes. In one (LLL) the core component was long-chain triglycerides (TG), the second (MMM/LLL) contained equal molar amounts of medium- and long-chain TG, the third (MLM) contained synthetic TG with medium-chain (M) fatty acids in the 1,3-positions a...
متن کاملInteraction of lipoprotein lipase with homogeneous lipid emulsions.
The central function of lipoprotein lipase (LpL) is to hydrolyze triacylglycerols in chylomicrons and very low density lipoproteins. We have examined the binding of purified milk lipoprotein lipase to homogeneous synthetic lipid emulsions. Emulsions composed of either naturally occurring ester-linked lipids or the non-hydrolyzable ether analogues were prepared by sonication and pressure extrusi...
متن کاملThe Liver and Postheparin Plasma Lipolytic Activity in Dog and Man.
The intravascular injection of heparin results in the rapid appearance in the blood of a lipolytic enzyme capable of clearing lipemic sera and hydrolyzing artificial triglyceride emulsions (1, 2). This enzyme has been termed clearing factor (3), lipoprotein lipase (4), clearing factor lipase (2), or postheparin plasma lipolytic activity (PHLA) (5). A lipolytic enzyme with characteristics nearly...
